Prestigious event to celebrate 10th anniversary

THE Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles presented by Rip Curl, will return later this month to Djarrak/Bells Beach to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Recognised as one of the most anticipated events on the Victorian surfing calendar, the three-day event (May 26-28) will bring together the best First Nations surfers from across the country, including those from Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.

The event will host divisions including Open Men and Women, Junior Men and Women (U18), Masters (O35), Elders (O50) and Longboard divisions.

Surf Coast Shire Mayor Liz Pattison said plenty of excitement was brewing for the return of the iconic event.

“We’re excited to welcome the leading First Nations surfers to Djarrak for the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles,” Mayor Pattison said.

“As a Council, we support events that encourage people to stay longer on the Surf Coast in our off-peak season, and appreciate and care for this place.

“It’s exactly what these national titles do, welcoming top First Nations surfers from across Australia to connect with each other and connect with country.

“I wish competitors all the best.”

Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson also expressed how thrilled the state surfing body were to welcome back over 70 surfers from across the country for the annual fixture.

“The event is an incredible showcase of first nations surfers and a true gathering of surfers from around the country.”
