AFL Barwon has decided to cancel the senior female football and Under 19 football and netball seasons.
The announcement follows the state government’s temporary ban on contact training that came into effect last week.
Play was previously set to resume on August 1 for senior female football and August 2 for Under 19 football and netball. However, the state government has not provided any definitive dates for when competition will be permitted to resume, and the AFL Barwon Commission deemed further modification to the season unfeasible.
Senior and Under 19 teams are still permitted to train but protocol must be followed.
In a statement announcing the cancellation of the senior and under 19 competitions, AFL Barwon thanked all involved for their “patience, support and understanding throughout these challenging times”.
AFL Barwon also encouraged members to continue looking out for one another and keep on top of their mental and physical health.
Presently there is no change to contact training and competition dates for Under 18 football and netball.
