State team set for national titles on home soil

A STAR-STUDDED lineup of local athletes will represent the state at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles on home soil in Victoria next month.

A baker’s dozen from the Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula will compete in the nation-wide event which will be held on Phillip Island from November 25 to December 3.

Barwon Heads triplet Isaiah Norling, Jack Bassett and Remy Roberts will be looking to take home the title in the Under 18 Boys division, while Jan Juc sister duo Dune and Anise Pruvot will compete in the Under 16 and Under 14 Girls divisions respectively.

Other locals to receive state honours include Juliet Muscroft (Jan Juc), Jerry Kelly (Barwon Heads), Remy Filer (Jan Juc), Oscar Kerr (Ocean Grove), Jack Lindsay (Jan Juc), Harlem Pec (Jan Juc), Charlie Chisolm (Torquay) and Chloe Muscroft (Jan Juc).

Surfing Victoria high performance director Cahill Bell-Warren said the Victorian team was well placed for success.

“It’s always special to have the Australian Junior Surfing Titles on home soil in Victoria.

“We have one of the most geographically diverse teams in recent memory with an even spread across the coastline showing the depth of talent in Victoria at the moment.

“Last time we had the event at home in Victoria we not only scored great waves but had on the most successful years ever and took home 3 individual Australian Titles.

“This squad is well prepared through the they have done with the Surf Better Now coaching team; the stage is set for the Vic Mafia to show off their skillset on home turf.”

The winners of the Under 16 and Under 18 divisions will earn a spot on the Irukundjis team to represent Australia at the 2024 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

The event will also feature school surfing divisions in both the Under 16 and Under 19 Boys and Girls age groups.
