THE Geelong United Supercats will be without one of its key cogs for the remainder of this year’s NBL1 season after the club announced star forward Owen Odigie underwent surgery today (Thursday, April 6).

Scans confirmed 30-year-old Odigie ruptured his quadriceps during Saturday night’s two-point loss to Kilsyth.

Odigie, who has been with Geelong United since 2021, played just 13 minutes, racking up six points, five rebounds and an assist against the Cobras.

“He went up for an uncontested dunk, and his leg blew out,” head coach Grant Wallace said.

“We’re all devastated for him, it’s an ordinary situation.

“The club is supporting him every way we can.”

Geelong United also announced veteran big man Ma’alo Hicks had received the green light for his long-awaited return to the Supercats’ line-up for the home opener against Bendigo Braves on April 15.

Final confirmation is yet to be heard regarding the return of George Blagojevic following his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered last season, but markers from the club suggest he is tracking towards a potential return.

“He trained really well last night,” Wallace said.
