The tee up: this week in golf
STRONG performances in stableford, par and foursomes competitions highlighted another busy week of golf across the Surf Coast.
At The Sands, Matthew Carrigg (24) opened the week by winning Monday 15 June’s medley stableford with 40 points. Tuesday’s nine-hole event was claimed by Scott Bradley (5) with 17 points.
Wednesday’s medley par produced some of the strongest results of the week. Tom Nelson (17) won B-grade with +4, while Darrell Nash (10) took A-grade at +3 and Lachie Cumming (23) claimed C-grade with the same score.
Thursday’s women’s par event proved challenging, with Lisa Gray (45) winning on -4, one shot clear of Norma Schultz (21) and Jane Pruys (25), who both finished on -5.
Friday’s stableford saw Joel Powers (13) edge A-grade on countback after posting 40 points, while Gary Booth (18) won B-grade with 40.
Saturday’s men’s stableford was highlighted by Justin Markey’s (24) 41 points to win C-grade, while John Thompson (14) claimed B-grade with 39 points and Luke Muller (6) won A-grade with 35. Theresa Best (29) topped the women’s competition with 36 points.
At Torquay, Monday’s veterans stableford saw Aldo Faella (20) and Kaye Ellen (29) take out the men’s and women’s divisions with 28 and 26 points respectively.
Tuesday’s Irish four ball community services day attracted strong participation, with Carolyn Anderson, Jo Johnson, Vic Nicol and Alison Reed winning on 130 points, six clear of the runners-up.
Wednesday’s stableford produced a number of strong rounds. Ben Thomas (8) won A-grade with 39 points, Allan Kline (20) claimed C-grade with 39 and Zac Ford added an eagle on the 1st hole.

Todd Unwin (19) won Thursday’s stableford with 37 points before Friday’s monthly medal stableford saw Jeff Welsh (14), Michael Ray (18) and Deb Dohnt (18) emerge as the leading performers in their respective grades.
Saturday’s stableford was highlighted by Amanda Locke’s (12) 40 points in the women’s competition, while Simone Garlick (8) won A-grade with 39 points. Sunday’s event saw Mark Reed (15) edge Ben Thomas on countback after both posted 38 points, while Amanda Locke backed up her Saturday success with another women’s victory.
At Anglesea, Wednesday 17 June’s men’s monthly stableford produced a tightly contested finish. Paul Hampshire (12) won A-grade on countback with 38 points, while Ian McCrimmon (22) matched that score to claim C-grade.
Thursday’s SWGA silver salver foursomes was won by Rae Ackland and Jan Stewart with a score of 71, narrowly ahead of Jules Rolfe and Heather Nancarrow on 72.
The club’s major matchplay events also reached key stages during the week. Paul Hampshire defeated Jim Dickson 5 and 4 to win the 2026 Chas Gibbs Trophy, while Brian Virtue and Stephen Sinnott won the Par Pairs Aggregate on countback.
Sunday’s mixed match title went to Lisa and Tony Speed, who defeated Shane Duncan and Denise Pennings 7 and 6. In the accompanying medley stableford, Daniel Waters (-1) claimed victory with 38 points, finishing one shot clear of Thomas Eskrigge (23).
