NEWTOWN & Chilwell kicked 20 goals on its way to a 62-point demolition of Colac yesterday (Saturday, August 27) at West Oval, and now the Eagles have a Grand Final berth in its sights.

The Eagles got the jump on the Tigers with a seven-goal opening frame and only added to it amassing a 49-point lead at the main break.

Whatever hope Colac had leading into the second half was quickly quashed when Newtown & Chilwell kicked a further seven majors to end the day 20.11.131 to 9.15.69 winners.

Matthew Boag played out of his skin, tallying a game-high six goals backed up four from Lachlan Bond.

Ned Harris and Matt McMahon each slotted a pair on the day, while six other Eagles added to Colac’s torment.

Kody Spokes and Aaron Walters were the Tigers’ only multiple goalkickers as Colac flailed in front of goal with 15 behinds.

Newtown & Chilwell has not won a premiership since 1986 and if they can defeat St Mary’s in the Second Qualifying Final next Saturday, September 3, then they will get a chance to end that drought at St Albans Reserve.

Colac hopes to bounce back against the winner of today’s  (Sunday, August 28) Elimination Final between Leopold and St Joseph’s.
