VICTORIA’S top surfing tradies will drop the tools next month and head to URBNSURF in Melbourne for the WorkSafe Tradies Challenge surfing competition.

The October 23 event will bring together the best surfing tradies from across the state for a day of high-quality surfing to crown champions across four divisions.

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said that the move away from Jan Juc to URBNSURF was an exciting proposition and one competitors would enjoy.

“We are stoked to be bringing the WorkSafe Tradies Challenge to URBNSURF and are looking forward to seeing lots of new faces at the event.

“The event is not your average surf comp and is a great way for tradies to catch up and get involved in a fun day of waves.”

The event will be open to people of all trades including carpenters, painters, builders, plumbers, electricians and surfboard shapers.

Featured divisions on the day will be Open Men’s and Women’s, Masters Open and Bodyboard Open.

A huge raft of prizes will be on offer from WorkSafe, Heaps Normal and Milwaukee Tools during the competition.

Surfers will also receive free surfing time in the URBNSURF lagoon on top of their surfing heats.

WorkSafe executive director of external affairs Sam Jenkin said the event brought to mind the most important reason to stay safe at work – to spend more time doing what you love.

“Every worker deserves to come home safely and enjoy their favourite recreational activities with their family and friends.

“WorkSafe has supported the Tradies Challenge since 2018 and is proud to continue its sponsorship of this fantastic community event.”
