GEELONG United will be looking to get back on the winners this week but will have a tough assignment against the second-placed Perth Lynx.

United and the Lynx will face off inside the HBF Stadium in Perth on Monday, December 23.

Geelong will be hoping to bounce back from a tough loss and secure an early Christmas present for its fans.

On Saturday evening, United suffered a 7-point loss to the Sydney Flames, with scores settling at 74-81 after four quarters.

United were unable to stop the firepower of Flames duo Shaneice Swain and Cayla George, who each scored at least 15 points, and dominated the paint and floor.

Haley Jones and United captain Keeley Froling were strong for the home side.

Jones scored 16 points, while Froling secured another double-double, scoring 11 points and collecting 10 rebounds.

Head coach Chris Lucas said it was onwards and upwards in this weekend’s game.

“We’ve had three games in six days, but its certainly no excuse and wasn’t the reason we lost the game. We played catch-up the whole match.

“It was a big learning one. Our execution at times wasn’t great, but we take plenty out of it.

“The couple of days off have been good to get away from basketball, and we are ready for this next one [against the Lynx].”

United sit at four wins and five losses for the season.
