United makes second signing for 2024
GEELONG United has unveiled another new face for 2024, announcing its second new signing of the offseason.
United’s NBL1 unit will be bolstered by 196cm guard Latrell Jones straight out of college in the United States, as Grant Wallace’s side begins to take shape.
“We are really so excited to secure the signing of Latrell to our program,” Wallace said.
“Latrell had a remarkable collegiate career at two wonderful programs that are very familiar to Australians, in the University of Portland and Nicholls State University, and he comes highly recommended as a person of great integrity on and off the floor.
“He provides us great flexibility as he is an exceptional athlete who can defend multiple positions, and I know our fans will enjoy watching him in transition, his ability to knock down the three or his talent to be aggressive and creating off the dribble for himself or others.
“His exceptional work ethic and attention to detail will be contagious to our younger players.”
Jones is fresh off a terrific 2022-23 collegiate season, securing All-Southland Second Team honours and an All-Louisiana honourable mention.
Jones was also named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on two occasions, averaging 15 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, in additions to 27 minutes per contest.
“I’m excited to be part of a dynamic group of men with elite skills that coincides to one goal, which is winning,” Jones said.
“Coming together is just the start but staying together is growth and development.”
Jones will join Demarcus Gatlin, Owen Odigie, George Blagojevic, and fellow new signing Desmond Owili as Geelong United’s contracted players in the NBL1 Men’s side.
