GEELONG United will face off against familiar regional foes to start the 2024 NBL1 South season, one of which is a highly anticipated home opener.

United will head north to Ballarat’s Selkirk Stadium on April 7 to open its 2024 season.

The Supercats will play its traditionally sold-out home opener five days later on April 12 against Bendigo, with the club’s senior women to take on the Braves’ 2023 National Championship-winning squad in the first of the night’s two games.

Geelong United will host a huge home opener clash against Bendigo at The Geelong Arena in 2024.

“Season 2024 of the Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 will be our best yet, with 1440 games, stacked rosters, an introduction of a nationwide Heritage Round, the return of ANZAC Round and First Nations Round, and a new naming rights partner,” NBL1 general manager Dean Anglin said.

“Coming off a season of tremendous growth, we are looking forward to driving the league to greater heights in 2024 with a jam-packed schedule full of blockbuster games every weekend.

Geelong United’s women’s side has yet to announce any signings for 2024.

“We are excited to welcome back the players, communities, clubs, partners, and fans for what promises to be a highly competitive and entertaining season.”

Geelong United and the 13 other southern conference member clubs will play 22 fixtures in 2024 over 14 rounds, split across 11 home and 11 games up until July 14.

Geelong United General Manager of Pathways Megan Moody said the club is excited to commence the 2024 campaign, particularly in front of the home fans.

“Our first home game of the season has our women squaring off against Bendigo who won the NBL1 South title and also the National Title in the 2023 season, while the men’s game will see both teams looking to get an important early season win on the board.

“This will be a huge night of basketball, with early season wins critical to each teams success.

“If you’re not able to make the home opener, don’t worry, we have 10 other home games facing off against talented teams like Frankston Blues, Mt Gambier Pioneers, Sandringham Sabres and our First Nations round game on Sat 6th of July against Dandenong Rangers which is always a fantastic night to be a part of.”
