Will it be another nail-biter for Hawks, Centurions?

Hawks Centurions nail-biter

Inverleigh's Jarrod Love kicks long.

IT’S NOT often you find two teams that have started their season with all three of their results finishing with margins of less than 10 points.

But that’s the case for Geelong and district footy league seniors duo Inverleigh and Werribee Centrals who will duel at Galvin Park tomorrow (Saturday, May 3) at 2pm in round 4.

Inverleigh coach Chris Moore breathed a sigh of relief when the Hawks hung on by three points against Bannockburn on Anzac Day to take their first victory of the year.

They survived a shot for goal from the boundary after the siren.

“The league is just so tight. Looking at the results, it’s a tipster’s nightmare to really pick anyone,” Moore said.

“Anyone on their day, looks like they are winning.

Inverleigh’s Jarvis Miles gets back behind the mark.

“Every game is close. It will take the first half of the season to work out where everyone is at.”

Centrals haven’t been as fortunate, losing by three points twice this season and by five points last weekend.

Moore said the Hawks, who won the 2023 premiership, had farewelled some retiring players in the past 18 months.

Their focus is now on gelling as a new-look side and giving youngsters opportunities out of the club’s thriving junior program.

“On the weekend we had eight players under 20 [years old],” Moore said.

The coach added the Hawks could be getting Dalton Grundell (hip) and Guy O’Keefe (hamstring) back this weekend or next round.
