Tuohy will break the record of 264 games held by AFL great and Melbourne Hall of Famer Jim Stynes when he takes the field against the Kangaroos.

Tuohy, who was born in Portlaoise, County Laois, Ireland, has been a key member of the Geelong side since arriving at the club in 2017. He has played 141 games for the Cats, following 120 games for the Carlton Blues from 2011 to 2016.

“It’s a great honour to be mentioned in the same breath as Jim Stynes,” Tuohy said. “He’s an absolute legend of the game, and I’m humbled to be able to break his record.”

Tuohy has been a versatile player throughout his career, playing both as a defender and as a midfielder. He is known for his strong marking ability and his ability to break the lines with his running.

“Zach is one of the most consistent players in the AFL,” Geelong coach Chris Scott said. “He’s a great leader on and off the field, and he’s a great role model for our younger players.”

Tuohy is also a two-time All-Australian and a two-time Geelong best and fairest winner. He is a key part of the Cats’ premiership hopes in 2023.

“I’m just focused on helping the team win,” Tuohy said. “If we can do that, then breaking the record will be the icing on the cake.”

Tuohy’s achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He is a role model for young players from Ireland who aspire to play in the AFL.

“I hope that my story can inspire other young Irish players to follow their dreams,” Tuohy said. “If I can do it, then anyone can.”
