{"id":100114,"date":"2024-07-17T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-16T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=100114"},"modified":"2024-07-10T19:29:10","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T09:29:10","slug":"gaws-put-freeze-on-to-promote-adoptions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/gaws-put-freeze-on-to-promote-adoptions\/","title":{"rendered":"GAWS put freeze on to promote adoptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Animal Welfare Society is hoping to spread some extra pet love this winter through its Winter Fee Freeze campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The local animal shelter has more than 150 cats, puppies and dogs over the age of six months ready for adoption for as little as $39.<\/p>\n<p>GAWS chief executive officer Helen Cocks said its low prices would hopefully get more people over the line to adopt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pets offer so much including, companionship, they teach children about responsibilities, they make us laugh, they provide warmth when we are upset, they create movement and enjoyment in a home and so much more!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would love to see each and every one of them find their perfect human match and go into a warm and loving home.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/MyRoom-8_89199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 150 cats, puppies and dogs over the age of six months are up for adoption.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;School holidays is also the perfect time to adopt a pet and have the time to settle them into your home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GAWS is presently facing all-time high demand due to adoptions slowing considerably in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Cocks said adopting now will allow GAWS to have space left for other animals to come in before peak season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very keen to get our current animals out of the cold, into a warm home and have their forever human to snuggle up with.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also have many still in foster or scheduled to be desexed who will also shortly be available for adoption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/MyRoom-7_89219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GAWS is hoping to get more of their animals into loving homes this winter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All dogs over six months are down from $360 to $49, puppies are now $199, down from $795 and cats over six months were $120 and are now $39.<\/p>\n<p>Animals available for adoption can be viewed at <a href=\"http:\/\/gaws.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaws.org.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also come in and see those available on site at 325 Portarlington Road Moolap, 3224.<\/p>\n<p>GAWS is also seeking monetary donations, in kind donations (towels\/blankets) and volunteers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Animal Welfare Society is hoping to spread some extra pet love this winter through its Winter Fee Freeze campaign.
