SIX Geelong Falcons players feature in a strong Under 18s Victoria Country team competing at the AFL U18 Girls National Championships.<\/p>\n

Stella Huxtable (Torquay), Mekah Morrissy (Newtown & Chilwell), Chloe Bryant (St Josephs), Sesia White (St Marys), Rebecca Clottey (St Marys) and Sara Howley (Newtown & Chilwell) are featured in the 28-player squad.<\/p>\n

Morrissy is also co-captaining the side.<\/p>\n

Victoria Country played its first game of the tournament against Queensland last weekend, going down by 21 points in what was a nailbiter until the last quarter.<\/p>\n

Local players Sara Howley and Stella Huxtable were both among\u00a0Country’s best.<\/p>\n

Huxtable, a Torquay Tigers junior and recent U\/16 All Australian, said she it was a joy to pull on the Victorian jumper.<\/p>\n

Mekha Morrisey is one of the sides co-captains for the AFL U18 Girls National Championships.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

“I was really proud of myself to get the call up to play for Vic Country as a bottom-ager, it was certainly a big surprise.<\/p>\n

“The weekend’s game was a lot of fun even though we had a loss.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely a big jump up in terms of the bigger bodies and speed of the game, but it’s something I really enjoyed.<\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to the rest of the tournament and hopefully I can continue to hold my spot in the side.”<\/p>\n

Victoria Country’s following two matches will be played against Victoria Metro today (July 14) and Western Australia on August 11.<\/p>\n

All matches in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships \u2013 U18 Girls will be live-streamed via the match centre and on the AFLW website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
