{"id":100227,"date":"2024-07-11T04:00:03","date_gmt":"2024-07-10T18:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=100227"},"modified":"2024-07-11T01:32:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T15:32:36","slug":"geelong-seeks-community-input-on-bike-park-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-seeks-community-input-on-bike-park-upgrades\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong seeks community input on bike park upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong is calling on mountain bike and BMX riders to help shape the future of Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Mountain Bike Park, and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps.<\/p>\n<p>Concept plans are being developed to renew these facilities, ensuring they are functional, fit for purpose, and rideable.<\/p>\n<p>Trail designers World Trail are aiming to make the tracks more engaging and challenging for riders of all skill levels.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the city was committed to enhancing local biking facilities as the sport gains popularity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I encourage riders, including young people and their parents, to help shape the concept plans for Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Bike Park and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Construction works to deliver the final concept plans will be rolled out over several years, and will be funded through renewal funding, future council budgets and external grants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Three consultation sessions will be held at the facilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At Stead Park Dirt Jumps in Corio today (Friday, July 12) from 1pm to 3pm<\/li>\n<li>At The Hill Mountain Bike Park, Newtown tomorrow (Saturday, July 13) from 10am to 12 noon, and<\/li>\n<li>At Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps tomorrow (Saturday, July 13) from 1pm to 3pm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Community members can also provide input through an online survey.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Sarah Hathway said the city had seen a significant increase in community members taking an interest in mountain bike and BMX riding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By increasing the appeal of the Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Mountain Bike Park and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps, we hope more people will use these facilities and take part in this healthy pastime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The concept plans will be refined based on public feedback and presented back to the community for a second round of engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Community members can fill out our survey online before August 4 at <a href=\"https:\/\/yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\">yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\/GMBJR.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong is calling on mountain bike and BMX riders to help shape the future of Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Mountain Bike Park, and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps.
