{"id":100452,"date":"2024-07-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-20T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=100452"},"modified":"2024-07-17T23:36:04","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T13:36:04","slug":"its-time-to-frock-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/its-time-to-frock-up\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s time to frock up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong community will come together for the annual Cure Cystic Fibrosis Gala Ball as it returns to GMHBA Stadium next Saturday (July 27).<\/p>\n<p>Organised by Cystic Fibrosis Geelong, the event raises much-needed funds for the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Cystic fibrosis is a disease people are born with, making mucus in the body become thick and sticky, causing buildup in the lungs and leading to repeated lung infections.<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally, all funds raised from the ball have gone towards research, but this year the charity is also hoping to raise enough for a grant through the Victorian Cystic Fibrosis Association.<\/p>\n<p>The grant would support people with more affordable access to mental health services for people with the disease.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/CFGALA_WEB_PF_230617_46974.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Those headed to the ball can look forward to a night of dancing, with food, entertainment and auctions. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cystic Fibrosis Geelong committee chair Leann Tremul said the committee was 100 per cent volunteers and every cent raised would go directly to the cause.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We try to keep it cure focused, but we know there is so much different research that needs to be done for cystic fibrosis,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a multi-organ disease so a lot of research is directed towards the lungs but there&#8217;s a myriad of other problems they have as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Through the annual gala ball, Cystic Fibrosis Geelong has raised close to $500,000, including $129,000 last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/07\/CFGALA_WEB_PF_230617_47001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The ball helps raise much needed funds to help find a cure and to support those with the disease. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Geelong businesses have come through; our community is so generous, it blows me away just how amazing the Geelong community is, not just for our small charity, but there&#8217;s so many small charities in Geelong that get so much,&#8221; Ms Tremul said.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc&#8217;s Ellie-May Jury will be the guest speaker at this year&#8217;s event, sharing her story and journey of living with the disease.<\/p>\n<p>More than 450 tickets have been sold for the event, with proceeds from live and silent auctions adding to the fundraising tally.<\/p>\n<p>All prizes have been donated including this year&#8217;s major prize, a $6000 sapphire trilogy ring from Duffs Jewellers.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Tremul said it was always a really fun evening with live music, dancing and a three-course meal from Higher Mark.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the middle of winter and there&#8217;s not much happening, so it&#8217;s a really good opportunity for people to dress up and get out of their houses and have a good night,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/geelongcysticfibrosis.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">geelongcysticfibrosis.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong community will come together for the annual Cure Cystic Fibrosis Gala Ball as it returns to GMHBA Stadium next Saturday (July 27).
