TWO schools in Geelong are among 65 Catholic schools across the state to get Victorian government funding to expand and modernise existing facilities or build new schools.<\/p>\n
The 67 projects at 65 Catholic schools are sharing in more than $243 million.<\/p>\n
Locally, St Patricks Primary School in Geelong West will receive $3.6 million for the construction of a two-storey building with administration spaces, comprising entry, offices, amenities and staff preparation area, and nine general learning areas.<\/p>\n
Holy Spirit Primary School in Manifold Heights will use a grant for the same amount, $3.6 million, to construct a two-storey multi-purpose learning building with three general learning areas, specialist learning, multipurpose hall, staff and student amenities, offices, entrance and associated spaces.<\/p>\n
Geelong MP Christine Couzens visited St Patricks Primary School to announce the funding today (Friday, August 2).<\/p>\n
\u201cSt Patricks and Holy Spirit Primary are fantastic and popular local schools in Geelong, and this project will mean their teachers have the best facilities to give their students the best education,” she said.<\/p>\n
“This funding will give local families the education facilities their children deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
These projects are being delivered through the Catholic stream of the Victorian government\u2019s Building Fund for Non-Government Schools.<\/p>\n
More than a third of Victoria’s students go to either a Catholic or a non-government school.<\/p>\n
\u201cThousands of Victorian kids go to a low-fee Catholic school every day \u2013 and we\u2019re making sure those kids are learning in the best environments,\u201d Education Minister Ben Carroll said.<\/p>\n
