{"id":101484,"date":"2024-08-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-10T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=101484"},"modified":"2024-08-08T12:45:58","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T02:45:58","slug":"community-rallies-for-cystic-fibrosis-ball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/community-rallies-for-cystic-fibrosis-ball\/","title":{"rendered":"Community rallies for Cystic Fibrosis Ball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 400 people gathered at GMHBA Stadium on July 27 for the annual Cure Cystic Fibrosis Gala Ball, raising almost $180,000.<\/p>\n<p>The funds will go towards finding a cure for the disease and setting up a grant to help Victorians with Cystic Fibrosis access mental health care.<\/p>\n<p>Cystic Fibrosis Geelong committee chair Leann Tremul said it was a fantastic night and they were very happy with the fundraising result.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The atmosphere in the room was amazing and I think everyone had a really great time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We raised an incredible $117,84, we&#8217;re very excited about that in this economic climate, we weren&#8217;t expecting to raise that much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/CFGALA_HIRES_0164_06845.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cystic Fibrosis patient Ellie-May Jury spoke on the night. Photo: PETER FOSTER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cystic Fibrosis patient Ellie-May Jury spoke on the evening, with Ms Tremul saying it was one of the highlights of the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s a beautiful, very articulate young lady, there&#8217;s wasn&#8217;t a dry eye in the room after she spoke,&#8221; Ms Tremul said.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the speech, a short film was also played showing the perspective of the mums on the committee and gave parents in the room something to relate to.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/CFGALA_HIRES_0265_12381.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hundreds of people gathered to raise funds to find a cancer for Cystic Fibrosis.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adding to the total fundraising tally was the live auction, which included a donated $6,000 sapphire trilogy ring as the major prize and other items donated by community businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Geelong business community&#8217;s incredible, how they get behind us and donate items and vouchers, we&#8217;re pretty much overwhelmed every year at the amount of support we get,&#8221; Ms Tremul said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 400 people gathered at GMHBA Stadium on July 27 for the annual Cure Cystic Fibrosis Gala Ball, raising almost $180,000.
