VICTORIAN Fisheries Authority (VFA) is on the hunt for recreational fishers to join an advisory committee.<\/p>\n

Nominations are open now for those interested on serving on the committee, providing advice on how to spend fishing license fees.<\/p>\n

Eight recreational fishers plus an independent chairperson will make up the Recreational Fishing License Trust Advisory Committee, serving a three-year term.<\/p>\n

The committee will also include 50 per cent representation by women.<\/p>\n

VFA chief executive officer Travis Dowling said the committee brought together a diverse range of fishing knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n

“These volunteers review and prioritise project submissions from fishing clubs, community groups, councils and government agencies.<\/p>\n

“They do a great job and have proven that recreational fishers are passionate about protecting and growing Victoria’s fantastic fisheries.<\/p>\n

“We are looking for grass roots fishers with a range of skills and ideas to provide advice on the best projects that will lead to even better freshwater and saltwater fisheries in Victoria.”<\/p>\n

The advisory committee will cover coastal, estuarine, freshwater native fish and salmonid recreational fisheries from across the state including from the South West region.<\/p>\n

Members are appointed by the Minister for Responsible Fisheries, who the advisory committee will provide advice to.<\/p>\n

Fishing license fees help improve recreational fishing in Victoria, funding fish stocking, increased enforcement, better fishing access and healthier water ways.<\/p>\n

Nominations close on Thursday, August 22.<\/p>\n
