{"id":102696,"date":"2024-08-24T18:52:34","date_gmt":"2024-08-24T08:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=102696"},"modified":"2024-08-24T18:52:34","modified_gmt":"2024-08-24T08:52:34","slug":"ammos-perfect-season-continues-with-win-over-grubbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/ammos-perfect-season-continues-with-win-over-grubbers\/","title":{"rendered":"Ammos&#8217; perfect season continues with win over Grubbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"elementToProof\">GEELONG Amateur will enjoy an important week off as it waits to see who its opponent is in this year\u2019s Bellarine Netball League (BNL) Grand Final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">The Ammos defeated rivals and premiership contenders Ocean Grove in Portarlington this afternoon (Saturday, August 24) 63-58, earning passage to a ninth-straight premiership decider dating back to 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Both sides traded goals in the opening quarter of the Second Qualifying Finals, with the Ammos slightly in front at the first intermission, 17-15, but Mel Savage\u2019s outfit jumped on the Grubbers in the second to more than triple its advantage and lead 33-26 at half-time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Ocean Grove did its best to try to bring the lead back, but still trailed by seven at three-quarter time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">The offensive attacks picked up in intensity, as Ruby Watson and Darcy McFarlane led the charge for Geelong Amateur, and Bec O\u2019Neill and Zanna Woods did the same for Ocean Grove.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_102700\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-102700\" style=\"width: 552px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102700 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-scaled.jpg?_t=1724489337\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/08\/My-Room-16-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-102700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rebecca O&#8217;Neill was again a prime target for the Grubbers midcourt with 42 goals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">The latter outscored Ammos 13-15 in the final quarter but could not overtake Geelong Amateur, going down by five .<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Watson and McFarlane combined for more than 60 goals on the day, earning 43 and 19 respectively, while O\u2019Neill and Woods scored 43 and 14 respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Today\u2019s Second Qualifying Final may set up a rematch in Leopold on September 7, if Ocean Grove can win next week\u2019s Preliminary Final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Aiming to repeat their 2023 flag success, the Grubbers will not know their opponent until the conclusion of tomorrow\u2019s Semi-Final between Queenscliff and Torquay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">Geelong Amateur, meanwhile, is trying to avenge last year\u2019s Grand Final loss and get back on the podium for the first time since 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Amateur will enjoy an important week off as it waits to see who its opponent is in this year\u2019s Bellarine Netball League (BNL) Grand Final.
