GEELONG organisation Meli will launch their Foster a Future appeal next week, raising funds for its foster care program and highlighting the need for more carers in the region.<\/p>\n

The appeal will kick off with the second annual Foster a Future Breakfast on September 5 at GMHBA Stadium, along with raising much needed funds the appeal is also an opportunity to show appreciation for foster carers.<\/p>\n

Media personality Kate Langbroek will headline the breakfast, speaking about \u201cthose who dare to dream, and those who dare to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my life, I have been a dreamer, and a doer -the latter often when I was forced by circumstance,\u201d Ms Langbroek said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo turn dreams into action is \u2013 I believe \u2013 the greatest gift we can give ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Returning for the second year as MC is Myf Warhurst, who has firsthand experience of foster caring.<\/p>\n

Ms Warhurst is well known for her role on Spicks and Specks and is the voice behind Alex Trixi on the children\u2019s show Bluey.<\/p>\n

The Foster Care appeal will help raise funds to recruit, train and retrain foster carers, along with providing extra support and activities for the children.<\/p>\n

Meli chief executive officer Grant Boyd said the event promises to be an uplifting and poignant celebration of local foster carers and highlight the need for more.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, we urgently need carers of all walks of life, backgrounds, ages and experiences who can provide a stable and nurturing home environment for a child or young person who cannot<\/p>\n

live at home with their parents or extended family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meli will also run a raffle with prizes donates by community partners up for grabs, including first prize which is valued at more than $1,600.<\/p>\n

To support the fundraising campaign, purchase a raffle ticket before September 4.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the event are available until 5pm tomorrow (Thursday August 29).<\/p>\n
