MORE than 300 people packed into the Presidents Room at GMHBA Stadium to help raise more than $14,000 for the Barwon Sports Academy at its annual Bis-Sport Breakfast.<\/p>\n

The event on Wednesday last week supported the region’s aspiring athletes in achieving their sporting goals in more than 10 sports.<\/p>\n

Attendees heard from Geelong Cats ruck Toby Conway, Geelong United’s Mark Neeld, netball royalty Susan Meaney and Penn State alumni and national tennis player Olivia Ryan.<\/p>\n

Barwon Sports Academy members also shared stories about the program and their goals for the future.<\/p>\n

Barwon Sports Academy chief executive officer Cameron Loftus said the event was incredibly well received.<\/p>\n

“A brilliant turnout to support the local community. It was clear how supportive everyone was just by their attendance.<\/p>\n

“Last year we raised $6,000 with 22 tables, and this year we had 30 tables.<\/p>\n

“To also have nine secondary schools there showed they value the partnership of working together to help young people.<\/p>\n

“Our local community just continues to rise up in giving people opportunities and we thank them for their contribution.”<\/p>\n

Mr Loftus said the funds will help them to fulfill grants for new and innovative sports.<\/p>\n

“There’s a greater variety now. We are now getting grants for skateboarding, amongst others.<\/p>\n

“The demand continues to increase, so to get 300 in a room each year like we did last week, will allow us to keep up with the needs of our aspiring athletes.”<\/p>\n
