DRAGONS Abreast Geelong, affectionately known as the Juggernauts, celebrated two decades of dragon boating at the Geelong Canoe Club on Saturday, with present and former members gathering to mark the milestone.<\/p>\n

Club president Traci Brown welcomed attendees, acknowledged the impact of breast cancer on their lives and honoured those who have passed.<\/p>\n

“So many amazing breast cancer survivors, their families and friends have played a key role in making this club what it is today on our 20th anniversary \u2013 a place to come together, get fit and support each other,” Ms Brown said.<\/p>\n

Dragons Abreast is an international organisation dedicated to breast cancer survivors.<\/p>\n

Research indicates that participating in dragon boating can significantly aid recovery following breast surgery.<\/p>\n

Beyond the physical benefits, the camaraderie and support shared among members are vital components of their experience.<\/p>\n

Corangamite federal member Libby Coker, who also attended the event, presented the inaugural life member award to Deni Shimana, who had been an active member of the club for 20 years.<\/p>\n

“Breast cancer affects so many women and families, and the Juggernauts play such an important role in providing a place for survivors to come together and support each other through sport,” Ms Coker said.<\/p>\n

“I’d like to congratulate the club on this awesome milestone, and for inviting me to join with them for the celebration \u2013 20 years of providing much-needed support to local women, their families and friends.”<\/p>\n

Founded in 2004 with support from the Zonta organisation, the Juggernauts have fostered a community for breast cancer survivors, providing a space for exercise, friendship and mutual support over the years.<\/p>\n

The Juggernauts welcome new members and invite anyone affected by breast cancer, along with their families and friends, to join them. No prior experience is necessary. ‘Come and Try Days’ are scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, October 12) and October 19 at 12.30pm at the Geelong Canoe Club, Marnock Street, Highton.<\/p>\n
