GEELONG radio station 94.7 The Pulse will return to full community ownership following a 17-year partnership between the station and Cultura.<\/p>\n
Announced last week, the move will see the radio licence for The Pulse transition back into community hands for management and control, with Cultura’s role switching to being a major sponsor from July 1, 2025.<\/p>\n
Cultura chief executive officer Joy Leggo said community broadcasting was a vital part of the Australian media landscape.<\/p>\n
“The Pulse is one of the 450 community radio stations that broadcast more than 500 services across Australia and helps to play the important role of providing a voice for communities that are not adequately serviced by other broadcasting sectors.<\/p>\n
“Since 2007, we have supported the Pulse and helped it grow into a vibrant, community focused station that has ensured that a diverse range of multicultural programs are on offer.”<\/p>\n
She said Cultura would work closely with The Pulse’s key personnel and volunteers during the transition.<\/p>\n
“Cultura will continue to support 94.7 The Pulse financially during this transition year to ensure that all legal requirements are undertaken, assistance with regulatory compliance is provided, good governance practices are in place and appropriate financial management processes are operational prior to handing over.<\/p>\n
“The impact of community radio is huge. The Pulse is a vibrant force that nurtures community connections, celebrates culture, provides a platform for local news and champions marginalised voices.<\/p>\n
“Geelong needs this station back in community hands and I am excited to see where this leads.”<\/p>\n
The Pulse station manager Leo Renkin said broadcasting weekly ethnic language programs would remain a high priority for the station.<\/p>\n
“We are very grateful for the support of Diversitat and Cultura over the last 17 years and will continue to maintain our close ties with all local organisations and partners and encourage more members of the community from all walks of life to become involved with the station.<\/p>\n
