DON’T Forget My Pet Foundation hosted its first community event over the weekend, bringing people and their four-legged friends together.<\/p>\n

Just under 100 people were in attendence at the Grovedale Uniting Church on Saturday where they were treated to free vet nurse check-ups, pet blessings, dog treats, face painting, a visit from the Belmont CFA and more.<\/p>\n

Don’t Forget my Pet Foundation managing director Alysha McKenzie said she was pleased with how the event went and all the feedback was really positive.<\/p>\n

“We were really lucky, a lot of stuff was donated for the goodie bags, a lot of stuff was donated for the lucky dip, and that’s just the generosity of the community.<\/p>\n

“We achieved what we set out to do and I got to hold a fire hose, so it was a good day.”<\/p>\n

The Belmont CFA was on scene with their truck, providing entertainment for kids and adults of all ages with the hose.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

For Ms McKenzie the goal of the event was to raise awareness in the community for the newly formed foundation.<\/p>\n

“We’ve had more people reach out to us, we’ve had more people subscribe to our newsletter, so absolutely we’ve definitely raised more awareness.<\/p>\n

“We had a lot of people who didn’t know about the event that came up and they were chatting to us.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The free veterinary nurse checkups were one of the highlights of the event, and a part of the day Ms McKenzie said was really rewarding.<\/p>\n

“Being able to have that general checkup and have that advice as to what to do without having to pay a consultation fee was pretty rewarding.”<\/p>\n

Through the event, the foundation was also able to raise money to allow them to continue their work in helping people support their pets.<\/p>\n
