EXPRESSIONS of interest for a program assisting households to make the switch from gas to renewable and energy efficient electric appliances have been extended until November 30.<\/p>\n

Geelong Sustainability officially launched the second iteration of its Electric Homes Program in September, which has been designed to make it easy for homeowners to save money on their energy bills, reduce their emissions, switch of gas and live more comfortably in their homes.<\/p>\n

This year’s program boasts an expanded range of products and services that are available to participants at special prices, including solar panels, hot water heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers, along with draught proofing and home energy audits.<\/p>\n

Geelong Sustainability chief executive officer Dan Cowdell said the response to the Electric Homes Program had been fantastic.<\/p>\n

“We’re eager to give as many residents as possible the opportunity to take advantage,” he said.<\/p>\n

“By extending the program, people have more time to explore the advantages of switching to energy-efficient, all-electric options that can enhance home comfort and lower energy costs.”<\/p>\n

Last year’s Electric Homes Program aided more than 300 households to install new appliances in their homes for an estimated combined annual saving of more than $200,000 on their energy bills and an environmental impact equivalent to removing 183 cars from the road.<\/p>\n

Marge Smith, a Geelong West resident and Electric Homes Program customer, said she “couldn’t be happier” with the hot water heat pump she got through the program earlier this year.<\/p>\n

“Living in Geelong, it made sense to complete our all-electric journey with the help of the Electric Homes Program and finally disconnect from gas,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Electric Homes Program is open to all residents across the Surf Coast Shire, City of Greater Geelong and Borough of Queenscliffe, as well as the Golden Plains Shire and Colac Otway Shire.<\/p>\n

Every system sold contributes to the donation of solar and heat pumps to households in the community who otherwise cannot afford them.<\/p>\n

Community members eager to learn more can access a series of webinars, pre-recorded by Geelong Sustainability, that run through the products and services available through the program.<\/p>\n
