ONE of Geelong’s top soccer clubs has rebranded, marking an exciting new chapter for the world game in the region.<\/p>\n
The Breakwater Eagles announced at its annual general meeting last week it would become Geelong City Football Club.<\/p>\n
The club’s recent relocation from The White Eagle House to new facilities at Howard Glover Reserve in East Geelong was the key deciding factor in rebranding, and modernising its name, logo and kit design.<\/p>\n
Club president Jim Kontogeorgis said he was excited for the journey ahead and building on the Eagles legacy.<\/p>\n
“Since our founding in 1964 by the Polish community, we’ve had the privilege of being supported by extraordinary players, dedicated committee members, sponsors, tireless volunteers, parents, The White Eagle House, and our wider community.<\/p>\n
“It has played an invaluable role in shaping our rich history, and we owe our many achievements to [their] unwavering commitment.<\/p>\n
“From where we were before to where we are now with these great facilities and plenty of teams, there is so much to look forward.”<\/p>\n
He said the new logo and kit will feature the eagle on its crest as a way of paying homage to its roots.<\/p>\n
“While it may feel like the end of an era, our legacy remains close to our hearts. We will always be known as ‘The Eagles,’ nickname that carries forward our proud history.<\/p>\n
“We look forward to building on our legacy with our amazing community by our side. Here’s to theBY NATHAN RIVALLAND<\/p>\n
