RECYCLED truck tyres are helping to drive upgrades forward at one of Geelong’s much loved sporting precincts.<\/p>\n
More than 50 tonnes of recycled crumbed rubber sourced from the tyres is being used to renew the running track at Landy Field.<\/p>\n
Recent works have included the installation of the base rubber and sealer coat on the track, with the topcoat of rubber to be installed in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Geelong chief executive Ali Wastie said the use of the recycled products aligns with the organisation’s Environment Strategy.<\/p>\n
“It promotes a circular economy through sustainable procurement practices, supports new and existing markets for recovered resources, and promotes increased use of recycled materials in road, building and other infrastructure constructions.<\/p>\n
“The work being undertaken at Landy Field is innovative in its nature and current users as well as future generations of athletes will benefit from these substantial upgrades.”<\/p>\n
The $1.5 million upgrades to Landy Field will also include the relocation of the hammer and discus cage to allow for more competition events to be carried out at the same time.<\/p>\n
Track upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
