THE finishing touches are being put on Christmas Opening Night – Denis Walter Carols by the Bay at Steampacket Gardens this Saturday. November 30, and the City of Greater Geelong is advising of road closures in the lead-up.<\/p>\n

In preparation for the free community event, Western Beach and Eastern Beach roads will be closed to vehicles between Cunningham and Yarra streets from 4pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Moorabool Street will also close between Eastern Beach Road and Brougham Street at this time.<\/p>\n

These areas will re-open from 11pm or when it is safe to do so.<\/p>\n

Emergency access will be maintained at all times during the event.<\/p>\n

Accessible parking will be available on Eastern Beach Road, between Yarra and Bellarine streets.<\/p>\n

Free parking is available at Westfield Geelong\u2019s yellow lower ground carpark on Brougham Street if drivers enter after 6pm.<\/p>\n

The carpark entrance will remain open until 8pm when the main event begins, and the exit will close at 1030pm.<\/p>\n

There will be no public parking available in the following locations on Saturday:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Busport Car Park – 8am to midnight
\n\u2022 Western Beach and Eastern Beach roads between Cunningham Street to Yarra Street \u2013 3pm to 11pm, and
\n\u2022 Moorabool Street between Eastern Beach Road and Brougham Street – 3pm to 11pm<\/p>\n

City of Greater Geelong chief executive officer Ali Wastie said Saturday night promised to captivate locals and visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe City of Greater Geelong is proud to partner with Denis Walter to deliver the family friendly Christmas Opening Night – Denis Walter Carols by the Bay event.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo ensure the that the event runs smoothly, there will be changed traffic conditions.”<\/p>\n

She said the city was asking community members to plan ahead, follow detours and respect staff operating the road closures.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the Floating Christmas Tree is switched on at 9.15pm, there will be low-level pyrotechnics lasting two minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recommend community members bring their pets indoors or keep them in a secure location on the night, to keep them safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
