	{"id":107741,"date":"2024-11-30T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T17:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=107741"},"modified":"2024-11-28T17:12:46","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T06:12:46","slug":"norlane-paramedic-headed-to-the-official-strongman-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/norlane-paramedic-headed-to-the-official-strongman-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Norlane paramedic headed to the Official Strongman Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORLANE paramedic Katie Blunden is on her way to becoming Australia&#8217;s strongest women as she gears up to take on the Official Strongman Games.<\/p>\n<p>Heading to the United States, she&#8217;ll compete in the 2024 competition running from December 5 to 8 for the title of World&#8217;s Strongest Woman.<\/p>\n<p>The second-year paramedic began competing in strongman in 2021 after watching one of her friends compete in a local competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Strongman is a sport where you lift different heavy objects either for a maximum weight, maximum reps or to carry for a maximum distance or time,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each competition will have different events and involve different implements to lift, so it&#8217;s always changing and no two competitions are the same.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107744\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107744\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107744 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/Katie-pulling-a-truck-682x1024.jpg?_t=1732774285\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/Katie-pulling-a-truck-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/Katie-pulling-a-truck-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/Katie-pulling-a-truck-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/Katie-pulling-a-truck.jpg 843w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katie Blunden is headed for the Official Strongarm Games in December.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Blunden was crowned Victoria&#8217;s strongest woman last year and is currently second in Australia, loving how diverse the sport is and always training a different event or implement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been able to do some pretty cool things in strongman \u2013 I&#8217;ve pulled trucks, flipped a car, pressed more than 140 kilograms over my head and carried more than 300 kilograms on my back,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being able to life heavy weight and achieve something that people such as myself thought was impossible is a very powerful feeling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Becoming a paramedic at Ambulance Victoria was always a life goal for Ms Blunden, inspired after breaking her ankle at 14 and needing an ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>She has a love for learning about medicine, enjoys helping people and working a job where no two days are the same, making being a paramedic a great combination for her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Strongwoman has helped me become a very driven and dedicated individual which is important for developing a long-term career,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NORLANE paramedic Katie Blunden is on her way to becoming Australia&#8217;s strongest women as she gears up to take on the Official Strongman Games.
