{"id":107800,"date":"2024-12-05T04:00:17","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T17:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=107800"},"modified":"2024-12-04T14:34:01","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T03:34:01","slug":"barwon-sports-academy-crown-2024-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/barwon-sports-academy-crown-2024-champions\/","title":{"rendered":"Barwon Sports Academy crown 2024 champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WORLD junior sailing champion Josh Garner has taken home top honours at the 2024 Barwon Sports Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-year-old Leopold resident was awarded the Lee Troop Award for Excellence on Monday evening.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 603px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/BSA_AwardsNight-7155_22180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"402\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sailing world junior champion Josh Garner accepting the Lee Troop Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 17th annual awards evening celebrated the achievements of the Barwon Sports Academy&#8217;s 133 athletes across baseball, beach volleyball, golf, tennis, netball, sailing, swimming and more.<\/p>\n<p>It also featured special guest interviews with current Australian water polo captain Blake Edwards and champion Diamonds player Madi Browne.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 606px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/BSA_MaddieIntreview-_22107.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"404\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Diamonds netballer Madi Browne.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The top award on the evening was taken home by Garner, who finished first in the state, national and world sailing championships in 2024 and was also the international team captain for Australia.<\/p>\n<p>BSA chief executive officer Cameron Loftus congratulated Garner on his tremendous success.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Josh Garner is an exceptional talent. He has achieved incredible results on the water but all reports continue to include the professional manner in which he represents himself, his club and his family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Winning the Lee Troop award is a wonderful effort and adding the BSA Ambassador of the Year award to his cabinet is something he can be very proud of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chris Crabbe was awarded the Ross Synot Award in recognition of service to the BSA.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/BSA_AwardsNight-0109_22199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chris Crabbe (Golf Program Manager) receiving the Ross Synot Award for Service to the Barwon Sports Academy from Ross Synot.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Congratulation to Chris Crabbe,&#8221; Mr Loftus said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This recognises outstanding achievement to the academy.
