{"id":108202,"date":"2024-12-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=108202"},"modified":"2024-12-11T18:01:33","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T07:01:33","slug":"hundreds-turn-out-for-celebration-breakfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/hundreds-turn-out-for-celebration-breakfast\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds turn out for celebration breakfast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 300 people filled the President&#8217;s Room at GMHBA Stadium last week for the Leisure Networks International Day of People with Disability Celebration Breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Held on December 4, the event showcased the organisation&#8217;s commitment to empowerment and community connection.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/MEGREADPHOTOGRAPHY_L_94505.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"416\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jordan Ablett, Haylea Cooney, Josh Jenkins and Dale Moorfoot made up the parents panel for the morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The breakfast was a celebration of inclusion, a showcase of strength and resilience, and a call it action,&#8221; Leisure Networks chief executive officer David Meade said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a reminder that when we come together as a community, we can create pathways for everyone to thrive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/MEGREADPHOTOGRAPHY_L_94519.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was well attended with more than 300 people heading along.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In what is being described as a resounding success, participants were treated to a performance by DJ Fuzzy Logic before the breakfast was officially opened by The Gordon chief executive officer Joe Ormeno.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Ablett, Josh Jenkins, Dale Moorfoot and Haylea Cooney made up the parents panel, a key feature of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>The four took to the microphones, opening up and sharing their insights and experiences around raising children with disabilities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/MEGREADPHOTOGRAPHY_L_94474.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"630\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leisure Networks CEO David Meade thanked the guest speakers for the morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the morning, they discussed the life-changing impact when learning about their child&#8217;s disability, daily challenges and triumphs, future hopes and their message for others.<\/p>\n<p>They also highlighted the essential role of community, resources, support and connection in fostering positive outcomes for individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/MEGREADPHOTOGRAPHY_L_94579.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"687\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Phoebe Mitchell and Sam Moorfoot joined Leisure Networks&#8217; Roxie Bennet on stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is hoped that attendees gained a deeper understanding of the unique experiences those navigating life with disabilities have.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Meade also delivered a powerful speech, sharing the story of James Elford, a young man who wanted to become a barista, trying 29 local cafes before someone gave him a chance.<\/p>\n<p>Participants were asked to embrace inclusion as an everyday choice, and were reminded that inclusion starts with a &#8216;yes&#8217;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 300 people filled the President&#8217;s Room at GMHBA Stadium last week for the Leisure Networks International Day of People with Disability Celebration Breakfast.
