{"id":108291,"date":"2024-12-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=108291"},"modified":"2024-12-12T09:37:43","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T22:37:43","slug":"christmas-lights-delight-neighbours-in-armstrong-creek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/christmas-lights-delight-neighbours-in-armstrong-creek\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas lights delight neighbours in Armstrong Creek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE dedicated work of an Armstrong Creek resident is again lighting up his street at Christmas time and delighting his neighbours.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday last week, Ken Bain officially switched on the lights and turned on the fans for the inflatables covering the entire frontage of his house at 11 Cabane Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>He first quipped &#8220;It isn&#8217;t finished yet!&#8221; to the crowd of about 50 people who had gathered for the occasion, as he still had some edging lights to put in.<\/p>\n<p>This is the fifth year Mr Bain has decorated his house for Christmas and it is bigger and better this year, with the number of plugins increasing from 99 in 2023 to about 120 in 2024.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/DSC_5162_59689.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This year&#8217;s display contains about 120 plugins. Residents from nearby houses gathered for the switching-on event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had all this space, and I thought to myself: why not use it up?&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We bought a lot of these after Christmas, so they weren&#8217;t expensive; it was a matter of just putting the effort into it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said creating the display, with some assistance from his family, took between four to five weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What didn&#8217;t help me was the weather &#8211; the wind and the rain was terrible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been an arduous task. My wife hasn&#8217;t been well, so I&#8217;ve also had to look after her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/DSC_5163_35391.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Residents from nearby houses gathered for the switching-on event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bain said his next door neighbour, Tina Lyons &#8211; whose house also features impressive Christmas decorations &#8211; had been an early inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She sort of started the challenge off, so blame her for it!
