FREE and fully decorated Christmas trees have been gifted to community and not-for-profit organisations in Greater Geelong.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong teamed up with Melbourne Airport to rehome beautiful decorations to support social enterprises doing great work.<\/p>\n
The initiative aims to spread festive cheer in the region, while contributing to a circular economy.<\/p>\n
Christmas trees have been delivered to The Paddock (Encompass Community Services), University Hospital Geelong, McKellar Centre, Meli, Creative Geelong, Centrepoint Arcade, Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative and The Potato Shed.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the city was excited to help make the festive season extra special for community and not-for-profit organisations.<\/p>\n
“Grassroots organisations are the heart of Greater Geelong and do so much to support our community.<\/p>\n
“Christmas can be a challenging time for some, which is why we wanted to spread some festive cheer with these beautifully decorated Christmas trees and wreaths.”<\/p>\n
Melbourne Airport executive general manager of strategy, planning and community Justin Portelli said the airport was delighted to assist with the donation initiative.<\/p>\n
“We are proud to support the local community and help spread festive cheer during this holiday season,” Mr Portelli said.<\/p>\n
“This initiative underscores our dedication to fostering community spirit and making a positive impact beyond our immediate area.”<\/p>\n
Leopold Ward councillor Trent Sullivan said it was fantastic to give a festive boost to the community while recycling beautiful decorations that could have gone to landfill.<\/p>\n
“The organisations haven’t been charged for the decorations or delivery and get to keep them permanently.<\/p>\n
