A DANGEROUS Ceres intersection is set to be upgraded.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong council resolved at its meeting last week to co-fund the sealing of 460 metres of Gully Road, starting from Barrabool Road, under a special charge scheme.<\/p>\n
The total scheme will cost an estimated $262,000 with property owners to contribute 50 per cent of that figure.<\/p>\n
It follows complaints and a petition from local residents requesting the road be sealed to improve Gully Road\u2019s safety and amenity and to limit the impacts of dust, mud and stone scatter to the adjacent properties.<\/p>\n
Cr Andrew Katos said the intersection where Gully Road and Cochranes Road meet Barrabool Road is a high accident intersection, citing examples where road users have taken the corner too quickly, struggled on the gravel and ended up in an adjacent dam.<\/p>\n
Sealing the road will provide great benefit to the community, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only does it [the scheme] seal the road for the residents, but\u2026the intersection there will be a lot safer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Ron Nelson encouraged any residents affected by the scheme who are experiencing financial hardship and are struggling with the cost of the scheme, to get in touch with the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are measures in place to assist those residents, so please reach out to us and we can look at the hardship policies where we can help out where we can,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
