TWO esteemed members of The Geelong College’s rowing history have had their names etched into two of the school’s newest rowing assets.<\/p>\n

Former college rower Louise Monotti and coach Christine McGlade were both recognised earlier ths month for their contributions to\u00a0the school.<\/p>\n

The two women were surrounded by friends, family and college students at the school’s boathouse on the Barwon River to officially christen the boats.<\/p>\n

The Girls’ VIII boat was named after Ms Monotti, who was described as a pioneer of girls’ rowing at The Geelong College and former cox for the Girls’ IV.<\/p>\n

She led her crew to consecutive victories at the Head of the River from 1981 to 1983.<\/p>\n

The Quad had Ms McGlade’s named inscribed in its side for her work as a devoted past parent and coach, who spent a dozen years motivating the school’s rowers from the river banks.<\/p>\n

“Naming these boats in honour of two remarkable women, whose enduring legacies inspire us, is a fantastic tribute,” director of rowing Andrew Richardson said.<\/p>\n

“During their time coaching at the College, Louise and Chris have guided students who have gone on to represent Australia in rowing, including at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

“This speaks volumes about their exceptional skill and dedication.<\/p>\n

“Though rain threatened to dampen the event, it only served to bring the large crowd and our rowers closer together.”<\/p>\n

Making the ceremony more special, staff member and a highly respected Boat Club contributor Lucy Pring spoke about both women’s lasting legacies, and college chaplain Steve Wright performed a blessing of\u00a0the boats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
