THE Central Geelong Youth Hub has officially been named following a period of community engagement.<\/p>\n

The new facility will be known as The Nest, a name selected from suggestions made by young people across the Greater Geelong region.<\/p>\n

Chosen for its meaning, uniqueness and memorability, the name resonated strongly with the youth advisory committee.<\/p>\n

Geelong junior mayor Hteemoo Yohellaymusaw said the committee was impressed with the care and thought people put into the suggested names.<\/p>\n

“The symbolism of ‘The Nest’ stood out and it will no doubt prove to be a place that lives up to its name for years to come.”<\/p>\n

The youth council’s final report for 2024 detailed the inspiration behind the name, highlighting its imagery of a safe, nurturing and comfortable environment, similar to a bird’s nest.<\/p>\n

The report also mentioned the nurturing space the facility will provide for personal growth and a vibrant community, with the name capturing what the Geelong Youth Hub aims to be.<\/p>\n

“I’m pleased to hear that young people have chosen ‘The Nest’ as the name for the new Youth Hub,” Geelong MP Christine Couzens said.<\/p>\n

“It is important that they have a voice, and take leading roles in all decisions about the hub.<\/p>\n

“I thank them for all their work and input to truly make this space their own.”<\/p>\n

The Nest will include an area for socialising and group activities, accessible bathrooms, a multi-purpose room suited for a range of uses, a kitchen for hosting cooking classes and more.<\/p>\n

The newly named building will open in the Busport Building, on the corner of Gheringhap Strret and Transit Place, in January, with the project supported by $400,000 in funding from the Victorian government.<\/p>\n
