{"id":109682,"date":"2025-01-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-27T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=109682"},"modified":"2025-01-29T13:53:59","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T02:53:59","slug":"avalon-airport-expands-freight-operations-with-new-cargo-terminal-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/avalon-airport-expands-freight-operations-with-new-cargo-terminal-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"Avalon Airport expands freight operations with new cargo terminal manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AVALON Airport has appointed Jacques Dumont as its new cargo terminal manager as it prepares to open a new $8 million state-of-the-art facility which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/quicker-deliveries-geelong-businesses-and-shoppers\">backed by the Allan Labor Government<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dumont, with over a decade of experience in aviation and supply chain management, has managed operations handling more than 130,000 tonnes of cargo annually.<\/p>\n<p>The new 24\/7 facility, to open in 2025, will increase Avalon&#8217;s processing capacity to more than 100,000 tonnes each year.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will include advanced scanning technology to meet new Border Force security screening standards and is expected to halve truck movements between Avalon and Melbourne Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the Greater Avalon Employment Precinct, the development is expected to create six direct jobs and hundreds of additional opportunities in cargo handling, warehousing and distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dumont said his appointment comes at a crucial time for Avalon&#8217;s growth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m thrilled to be part of Avalon Airport&#8217;s journey as it continues to expand and innovate in freight operations,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This new facility will be a game-changer, and I look forward to contributing to its success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Avalon currently handles more than 10,000 tonnes of cargo annually and serves as a key hub for events such as the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AVALON Airport has appointed Jacques Dumont as its new cargo terminal manager as it prepares to open a new $8 million state-of-the-art facility which is backed by the Allan Labor Government.
