{"id":110465,"date":"2025-02-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=110465"},"modified":"2025-02-13T13:49:50","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T02:49:50","slug":"browse-the-shelves-at-rotary-book-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/browse-the-shelves-at-rotary-book-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Browse the shelves at Rotary book fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 30,000 books will hit the shelves today (Friday, February 14) at the annual Rotary Club of Geelong West Book Fair.<\/p>\n<p>The community event will run until Sunday, February 16 at the Geelong West Town Hall and feature books from various genres, all at $2 each.<\/p>\n<p>All funds raised will go towards supporting rotary projects both locally and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The Barwon Health North Dental Clinic, Geelong Youth Engagement, Samaritan House and Operation Newstart have all been past beneficiaries of the fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Rotary Club of Geelong West Book Fair co-ordinator Michael Clyne said the club was excited to again be making a positive difference in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are a charitable organisation trying to raise as many funds as we can to put back into Geelong, other local areas, and a little bit of Australia and international.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/02\/IMG_8097_46416.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"461\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rotary Club of Geelong West members have been busy sorting books.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been working all throughout the year to sort the books, every second week, if not every week. We are looking to sell as many books as we can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Clyne said the majority of book donations have come from either the Geelong Regional Libraries Corporation or the general public who are downsizing or clearing out an estate from somebody.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent book fair, held in August 2024, raised more than $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s about getting as many books available as we can, and getting as many people in as we can,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We usually don&#8217;t set a fundraising target, rather we rely on the generosity of how much people want to spend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All romance books will be half price today to celebrate Valentines Day, and children&#8217;s books will be half price all weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The fair will open each day at 9am.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 30,000 books will hit the shelves today (Friday, February 14) at the annual Rotary Club of Geelong West Book Fair.
