GEELONG’S fourth Big Freeze will head to Anthony Costa Oval in Geelong in 2025, with a goal to raise $100,000 for motor neurone disease (MND) research.<\/p>\n
The annual event will take place on June 1 in the lead up to the St Mary’s vs St Joseph’s Geelong Football Netball League clash.<\/p>\n
The Big Freeze replicates the MCG Big Freeze, which sees personalities slide into icy water and raise funds to support Fight MND.<\/p>\n
Organiser Graeme Reid said organisers were hopeful of getting more than 8,000 people to the ground on the day.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got a target of getting to $100,000 this year. Hopefully we can get there.<\/p>\n
“The benefit of being lucky enough to have it at St Mary’s means we can create a lot more interest around the facility and ensure a really large crowd.<\/p>\n
“St Mary’s and St Joseph’s is a blockbuster in itself, and we feel very fortunate to have that platform for the event.”<\/p>\n
The first confirmed slider is St Mary’s life member, community leader and former City of Greater Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy.<\/p>\n
More sliders are set to be released in the coming weeks and in the lead up to the event.<\/p>\n
Since its inception, the Big Freeze Geelong has raised more than $250,000 for Fight MND.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
