THE Victorian government is on the hunt for a head contractor to lead the development of the new hockey facilities slated for Corio’s Stead Park.<\/p>\n

The expression of interest (EOI) process for the project opened on Friday last week, and all applicants are required to outline their plans for engaging with local businesses, suppliers and workers to create local jobs and strengthen the local economy.<\/p>\n

The Stead Park redevelopment will include a new pavilion, to be centrally located between the venue’s two hockey pitches, complete with four change rooms, change rooms for match officials, a canteen, storage and a first aid centre.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, its upper level will feature a social space, meeting room and kitchen and new terrace seating overlooking both pitches that promises to improve viewing for spectators.<\/p>\n

Stead Park’s western pitch will also be upgraded \u2013 with new fencing, drainage, lighting and an electronic scoreboard set to be installed \u2013 along with additional parking and a new access road to the venue.<\/p>\n

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said the Stead Park project was one that matters to the local community and will ensure the venue can host national-level hockey competitions.<\/p>\n

“It’s a venue that will bring the community together, strengthen Stead Park’s reputation as a premier hockey venue, all while backing local jobs and businesses.<\/p>\n

Lara MP Ella George said Stead Park was the proud home of hockey in Geelong.<\/p>\n

“The state government’s redevelopment gives players, fans and families the world-class facilities they deserve.”<\/p>\n

The project is one of five to be delivered across Geelong and the Surf Coast region as part of the Victorian government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, the legacy package announced after the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
