{"id":111083,"date":"2025-02-27T04:00:54","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T17:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=111083"},"modified":"2025-02-26T14:39:37","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T03:39:37","slug":"considine-conroy-win-at-phillip-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/considine-conroy-win-at-phillip-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Considine, Conroy win at Phillip Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SURF Coast duo Ben Considine and Bea Conroy have reigned supreme at Round 1 of the Victorian Longboard Titles on Phillip Island.<\/p>\n<p>More than 80 competitors took to the water last weekend with state team qualification and vital ranking points on the line.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_155926\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-155926\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-155926 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/DSC00363-scaled.jpg?_t=1740540980\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"402\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-155926\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bea Conroy won the open women&#8217;s division.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the Open Men&#8217;s division, 2024 World Longboard Tour competitor Ben Considine was too strong for his fellow counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Considine put together excellent scoring heats throughout the day and continued his momentum into the final.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Fahey (Mornington Peninsula) was second, Nathan Rivalland (Jan Juc) was third and Tasman Dunton (Mornington Peninsula) was fourth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It feels great to get a strong start and take the win at Phillip Island,&#8221; Considine said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had a really good nine months break from contests travelling after the WSL Bells Beach WSL tour contest last year and I just feel I&#8217;ve come back with a really fresh approach and super excited to get back into the contests.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Phillip Island was my third contest for the year, and I feel each heat is just building off the next and I&#8217;m developing some really good momentum, so I can&#8217;t wait to take that to Noosa soon and then the final round of the Victorian State titles to hopefully secure that place for the Bells wildcard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s field, Bea Conroy showed off her credentials as a top state competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Conroy was able to defeat Phillip Island pair Ebony Maier and Natalie Van Der Hayden, and Torquay&#8217;s Rori Reyntjes in the Open Women&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay stalwart Greg Brown was victorious in the Over 60 Men&#8217;s field, and finished second in the Over 50&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 401px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/DSC09894_48255.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"601\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greg Brown won the Over 60&#8217;s and finished second in the Over 50&#8217;s.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc surfer Bob Smith won the Over 70 Men&#8217;s discipline, while Delilah Chisholm won the Under 18 Women.<\/p>\n<p>Surfers will now look towards Round 2 of the Victorian Longboard Titl<\/p>\n<p>es at Point Impossible on May 17 and 18.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the Open Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s state title will gain a wildcard into the 2025 World Surf League Bells Beach Longboard Classic.<\/p>\n<p>For full results, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/liveheats.com\/surfingvictoria\">liveheats.com\/surfingvictoria<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SURF Coast duo Ben Considine and Bea Conroy have reigned supreme at Round 1 of the Victorian Longboard Titles on Phillip Island.
