SUMMER ends today but the events calendar in Geelong is just heating up.<\/p>\n
March is jam-packed with a huge line-up of activities spanning arts, culture and sport.<\/p>\n
Thespians are in for a treat with Skin of our Teeth Production’s performance of 198(4).<\/p>\n
Proudly supported by the City of Greater Geelong, this bold retelling of George Orwell’s classic offers a new perspective on the dystopian tale and is on now until March 2 at Waurn Ponds Hall.<\/p>\n
If you’re an animal lover, then you’re sure to enjoy two exhibitions currently on at the National Wool Museum.<\/p>\n
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition turns 60 with a fantastic display showcasing the diversity and beauty of the animal kingdom.<\/p>\n
This year’s competition received entries from 95 countries and has everything from toucans to tortoises on display.<\/p>\n
For friends of the four-legged variety, the museum has another fascinating photography exhibition, Cats and Dogs All at Sea.<\/p>\n
This touring exhibit features the work of Sydney photographer Sam Hood, who hopped aboard ships between the 1900s and 1950s, photographing the pets of crew members working at sea.<\/p>\n
If you would prefer to remain with your pooch on land and support a good cause, Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is hosting its annual PAWS for GAWS event at Eastern Park on 2 March.<\/p>\n
The Walk for the Dogs aims to raise funds for GAWS to support its invaluable work rescuing homeless animals and promoting animal welfare in Greater Geelong.<\/p>\n
If you’re after a more rapid pace, the River Run Geelong is also on March 2. The event is the region’s second largest running event and has 5km and 10km course options along the picturesque Barwon River.<\/p>\n
This is a fantastic opportunity to get moving and feel like a champion, regardless of how fast your run time is, with every participant receiving a medal at the finish line.<\/p>\n
If you’ve been training hard and 10kms doesn’t present enough of a challenge, Ironman 70.3 is making its return to Geelong for its 15th anniversary from 21 to 23 March.<\/p>\n
This competition is no small feat, with athletes swimming 1.9kms, followed by a 90km bike ride and a gruelling 21.1km run.<\/p>\n
For the first time Geelong will play host to the Ironman Pro Series opening round, broadcast internationally to an audience of more than 5 million viewers.<\/p>\n
This thrilling display of stamina takes place along the Geelong foreshore, and it will be fantastic to see our beautiful city showcased on the global stage.<\/p>\n
With all this and plenty more on offer in March, there’s something for everyone across the region.<\/p>\n
