THE inaugural Geelong Boat Show will arrive at the city’s waterfront next weekend for two days of marine excitement.<\/p>\n

Organised by the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV), more than 25 exhibitors will participate in the event, featuring boat displays, accessories and equipment while celebrating the lifestyle of boating.<\/p>\n

Away from the water, Paul Burt will host a seafood cooking event where he will share his tips and fishing stories.<\/p>\n

BIAV chief executive officer Steve Walker said the March 15 and March 16 event would offer something for everyone with displays for die-hard boating and fishing fanatics through to people thinking about an upgrade or purchase.<\/p>\n

“If you’re a person that loves the outdoors and recreation and you and your family or friends have an inkling that you’re looking for something to get into on the weekend and on your holidays, it might be boating, or there will be plenty for them to explore,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They’ll be able to talk to the boat dealers there that will be selling the boats and if they’re genuinely interested, they’ll be able to get out on the water and go for a little sea trial and see if it’s for them.”<\/p>\n

Mr Walker said he’s looking forward to bringing new people into boating through the show.<\/p>\n

“We love the diehards getting out there and checking it out, but our biggest thrill is when a family comes along and they start to explore the possibilities and then they discover their boating lifestyle.”<\/p>\n

Mr Walker said Geelong was chosen for the event because of its waterfront area and extensive boating population.<\/p>\n

“We expected there to be an appetite for such an event and mirroring the Melbourne Boat Show, which has been a great success in recent years, we’ve produced a boutique regional version of that,” he said.<\/p>\n

Attendees will also be able to catch some of the Offshore Superboats as they hold their championships in Corio Bay.<\/p>\n

Activities and activations will take place at Fairnie Park, Transvaal Square, Royal Geelong Yacht Club and Wangim Walk.<\/p>\n
