{"id":111972,"date":"2025-03-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-09T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=111972"},"modified":"2025-03-07T16:46:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T05:46:19","slug":"grants-open-for-community-led-road-safety-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/grants-open-for-community-led-road-safety-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants open for community-led road safety projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COMMUNITY groups and organisations can now apply for funding to improve road safety, with $600,000 available in the 2025 Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Road Safety Grant Program.<\/p>\n<p>The grants support local road safety initiatives and are available in two categories: the Road Safety Support Grant of up to $50,000 and the Road Safety Collaboration Grant of up to $150,000.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said the funding helped communities address local road safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re supporting communities to identify road safety issues and find ways to make roads safer in their local areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, six community groups shared in $350,000 to support projects aimed at reducing road trauma.<\/p>\n<p>This included Cultura Geelong, which received a $132,999 Road Safety Collaboration Grant to improve road safety education for multicultural communities.<\/p>\n<p>Good Cycles was awarded $50,000 to develop an education program supporting equitable e-bike access for social and affordable housing residents.<\/p>\n<p>The program aligns with the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030, which aims to halve road deaths and reduce serious injuries by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Accident Commission chief executive officer Tracey Slatter said community-led initiatives are key to improving road safety.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know that community support is essential to creating a culture that prioritises road safety in Victoria,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This program empowers community-based groups to identify and deliver road safety projects that cater to the specific needs and concerns of their communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More than $1.1 billion will be invested in road safety initiatives until 2028 as part of the Victorian Government&#8217;s Road Safety Action Plan 2.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the 2025 grants open on Monday, February 17, and close on Wednesday, April 2, at 3pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COMMUNITY groups and organisations can now apply for funding to improve road safety, with $600,000 available in the 2025 Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Road Safety Grant Program.
