{"id":112159,"date":"2025-03-17T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-16T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=112159"},"modified":"2025-03-15T10:10:55","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T23:10:55","slug":"sacred-heart-collegegeelong-marks-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/sacred-heart-collegegeelong-marks-milestone\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacred Heart CollegeGeelong marks milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SACRED Heart College Geelong is celebrating its foundation day next weekend with a carnival to mark the milestone.<\/p>\n<p>Held each year, the Foundation Day commemorates the establishment of the school, with 2025 marking the 165th year and coinciding with the Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope.<\/p>\n<p>The school will honour its Catholic roots with a mass on March 23 before moving into the carnival with rides, food trucks, games, music and more.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart College Geelong leader of development marketing and communication Emma Tyler said the event would be a big celebration this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re opening up our heritage precinct in light [of the fact] that it&#8217;s 165 years, that&#8217;s the older part of the school,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve got this beautiful chapel which has a lovely history, we&#8217;ve got an organist playing in there during the event, people can wander through and do a self-guided tour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/03\/IMG_3912_56421.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A carnival themed celebration will follow the Mass as the community marks the establishment of the college.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Event organisers hope attendees get to see what Sacred Heart is all about and that they feel a sense of community throughout the celebration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through our history we&#8217;ve always had a connection to community, that&#8217;s what we were founded with,&#8221; Ms Tyler said. &#8220;Those community events, it us really fostering that and opening the school up for other people to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a lot of heritage, we&#8217;ve got a lot of history so they can come and see it and they can get involved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To further mark the occasion, the school will also host a concert in the chapel on June 15.<\/p>\n<p>While the foundation event is free to attend, people wanting to go on the rides, petting zoo and Thomas the Tank Engine will need to purchase tickets, which will available on the day.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation Day celebration will run from noon until 4pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SACRED Heart College Geelong is celebrating its foundation day next weekend with a carnival to mark the milestone.
