READ the Play has rolled out two new mental health programs, both designed for children aged 12 to 14, as part of the organisation’s commitment to equipping young people with the tools to navigate mental health challenges.<\/p>\n

Hit the Mark and Game Plan, which were launched at Barwon Soccer Club on Wednesday last week, were developed through the support of the Anthony Costa Foundation and the Geelong Community Foundation<\/p>\n

Both programs focus on resilience, peer support, and informed decision-making around key youth issues.<\/p>\n

Hit the Mark builds emotional strength and awareness of vaping risks. It teaches young people how to critically assess advertising tactics, develop practical strategies for saying no, and support their friends in making positive choices.<\/p>\n

Game Plan is focused on the effects of alcohol on the brain, emotional regulation, and relationships. It helps young people understand the short- and long-term impact of alcohol consumption and develop strategies for making informed decisions.<\/p>\n

Read the Play general manager Michelle Gerdtz said both new programs were significant.<\/p>\n

“We’re seeing increasing pressures on young people when it comes to vaping and alcohol, and we know early intervention is key.<\/p>\n

“With Hit the Mark and Game Plan, we’re equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices, support their friends, and build emotional resilience.”<\/p>\n

She said the new programs meant Read the Play now had a complete suite of six programs tailored to support young people aged between 12 and 18.<\/p>\n

“This ensures we can provide age-appropriate mental health education at every stage of adolescence, helping young people build resilience, make informed choices, and access support when they need it.<\/p>\n

“We’re incredibly proud to offer a fully developed program pathway that empowers young people through sport and community connections.”<\/p>\n

Following the launch, Barwon Soccer Club’s Under 13 and Under 14 teams became the first participants to take part in the new programs.<\/p>\n
