{"id":112813,"date":"2025-03-27T04:00:35","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T17:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/cougars-pair-selected-for-mavs-super-netball-reserves-squad\/"},"modified":"2025-03-27T08:25:28","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T21:25:28","slug":"cougars-pair-selected-for-mavs-super-netball-reserves-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/cougars-pair-selected-for-mavs-super-netball-reserves-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"Cougars pair selected for Mavs\u2019 Super Netball Reserves squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Cougars\u2019 Charlize Bellette and Charli Hoey are among the 12 players who have been selected in Melbourne Mavericks\u2019 inaugural reserves squad.<\/p>\n<p>It means they\u2019ll be under the eyes of more recruiters as they push for a Super Netball (SSN) spot.<\/p>\n<p>The Mavericks have joined the fold this year after reserves was introduced last year.<\/p>\n<p>All 8 teams will play each other once across a seven-week season that will run alongside Super Netball from rounds 4 to 10.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Tracey Brereton said she was excited to see the talented squad grow and develop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis competition will allow these girls to compete and prepare for SSN level, especially for our young stars who haven\u2019t played in the Super Netball Reserves before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mavs assistant coach and head of pathways Nicole Richardson said the reserves was the premier competition for emerging Australian netball talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to be able to provide another opportunity for blossoming Victorian talent who are aspiring to reach that top level, with a second Victorian Super Netball Reserves team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mavs will host their first-ever game at Waverley Netball Centre on May 3, when they take on the Firebirds Futures.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Cougars\u2019 championship-level team came up trumps in their once-a-season fixture at Wurdi Baierr Stadium on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars defeated Melbourne University Lightning 49-37 in the Victorian Netball League.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_158468\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-158468\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-158468\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/03\/cougars-melbourne-uni-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-158468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Geelong Cougars in action against Melbourne University in the championship-level game.
