A NEW MRI machine has been installed at Barwon Health North in Norlane, improving access to diagnostic imaging for patients in Geelong’s northern suburbs.<\/p>\n
The $2.9 million project was funded by the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and includes a full service area fit-out and radio-frequency shield to ensure safe operation.<\/p>\n
MRI machines use strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of soft tissue, and are commonly used to help diagnose cancer, spinal injuries and joint issues.<\/p>\n
The new equipment brings the number of publicly-funded MRI machines in the region to five and is expected to reduce wait times and travel distances for local families.<\/p>\n
Barwon Health North has previously received upgrades to operating theatres, emergency equipment and cardiac monitoring systems.<\/p>\n
In total, the Victorian Government has committed more than $19.8 million to Barwon Health projects through the infrastructure fund.<\/p>\n
Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne said the funding was helping to expand access to care.<\/p>\n
“By investing in new equipment and infrastructure upgrades like this MRI machine at Barwon Health North, we’re ensuring that all Victorians can access the care they need, when they need it,” she said.<\/p>\n
The Regional Health Infrastructure Fund has supported more than 677 projects across rural and regional Victoria since it was established in 2015.<\/p>\n
Lara MP Ella George said the new MRI would make a difference to patients needing diagnostic scans.<\/p>\n
“Whether it’s a scan for treatment or surgery, we’re making it easier for residents in Geelong’s north to get the care they require sooner, getting them better and back on their feet,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
