{"id":113479,"date":"2025-04-15T15:33:50","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T05:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/local-pair-win-rip-curl-pro-trials\/"},"modified":"2025-04-15T15:50:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T05:50:57","slug":"local-pair-win-rip-curl-pro-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/local-pair-win-rip-curl-pro-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Local pair win Rip Curl Pro Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE ultimate dream has come true for a Jan Juc pair who will surf against the world\u2019s best at this year\u2019s 2025 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Xavier Huxtable and Carly Shanahan were victorious in today\u2019s (Tuesday, April 15) Rip Curl Pro Trials at Winkipop, and received wildcard entries into the World Surf League Championship Tour event, which starts this Friday, April 18).<\/p>\n<p>Today was Huxtable\u2019s second trials win, while Shanahan achieved the honour for the first time, three years after moving down to the area.<\/p>\n<p>Huxtable was a dominant force throughout the day\u2019s competition, winning all of his heats and the men&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 605px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_5693_75039.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"403\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xavier Huxtable throwing a huge turn.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The powerful natural footer put together a strong 15.34 in the final to oust local surfers Willis Droomer, Tully Wylie and Phillip Island&#8217;s Carl Wright.<\/p>\n<p>Huxtable\u2019s best score was an 8.17, where judges rewarded him for three searing top turns that threw plenty of water onto the rocks at Winkipop.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was rapt to be competing in his third Rip Curl Pro event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n  <iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F658514460143584%2F&#038;show_text=false&#038;width=267&#038;t=0\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m so frothing! The waves were tricky, and I had a bit of a slow start, but in the end, I can\u2019t believe it!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to do it with some of my best like Morgs [Cibilic], George Pittar and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so stoked to luck into a good one to get the good score and to get me going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s field, Shanahan also won all of her respective heats on the way to the title.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_5750_75026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carly Shanahan won the women&#8217;s wildcard.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shanahan\u2019s attack on the walls at Winkipop saw her earn some of the top scores of the day, including a huge 8.00 ride in the final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m feeling pretty good!
